Manila International Book Fair 2017

The Manila International Book Fair was held last September 13-17 at the SMX Convention Center. It is a five-day affair for all book lovers out there. There are a lot of exhibitors and events happening across the five days but to be honest, the only reason why I wanted to go was for the 20% off for all books at National Bookstore and Fully Booked.

We planned to be there at 10 AM. But because he lived so far from civilization, we arrived there at almost 11. The line towards the entrance was snake-like. It definitely discouraged us but we were already there so we still tried. Luckily, we got in after thirty minutes.

The National Bookstore booth was right in front of us when we entered. We tried our best to find this book but life had other plans for me. I wasn’t able to buy it. 😦 It’s quite a  disappointment but I’m sure I’ll still be able to read it…somehow.

ps. If you find it, please tell me where! I’m really interested in criminals and or serial killers lately and not in a I-want-to-be-like-one way. It’s just fascinating to me how someone can meticulously plan and execute such! Also because I’ve been addicted watching the Crime and Investigation channel.

After a while, we decided to see what else the fair had to offer. There were other publishers around but decided to just head to Fully Booked’s booths because the sheer amount of people was a bit overwhelming. We were unprepared for what welcomed us at Fully Booked though. It was overcrowded! It was very difficult to walk around, look at books, and breathe air. There was a lot of pushing and shoving involved. I personally just wanted to get my Murakami books and leave. We persevered and ended up getting a discount card (free if you get 3,000 worth of books) and a couple of tickets to their raffle.

After that ordeal, we decided to skip everything else and head to the mall. It was already very difficult to enjoy the fair comfortably because of the number of people inside the venue. Plus, the lines going to the venue was also crazy. Hopefully, next year the organizers can create a system where overcrowding won’t be an issue.

Here’s my haul for the book fair.

I know it’s a lot BUT I really wanted to hoard at the fair. I haven’t bought any new book in months plus I’ve also been selling my old books. *excuses he he he* I just wanted to complete my Murakami collection but I surprised even myself when I bought some classics. I also would like to thank Kate for her review of Smaller and Smaller Circles which urged me to buy the book. I don’t know when I’ll be able to read them because my 2017 Book List isn’t over yet but I’m working on it, I promise.

That’s it. I generally didn’t like the overcrowded atmosphere of the fair but I’m beyond happy that I got my hands on new babies to keep me company. Were you able to attend the fair? What books did you get?

To keep it short and simple: I'm thirty years old. Still plenty young, but not as young as I used to be.

  1. Kat!!! Di ako nakapunta kasi pagod na pagod na ako nung book signing palang 😦
I’m so happy for you sa haul mo.

Talagang sinulit! Hahaha.

Sige let me know basta may sale, down ako 🙂

    1. I’m so excited to read it! It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book by a Filipino author! I love Coraline, I’ve read it before and decided to get a copy for my niece ❤

  2. My friends love the Smaller and Smaller Cirlces. Matagal na nila kong kinoconvince na basahin yan. Parang lalabas atang movie adaptation next year.

Huhuhu.

    1. I’m so excited to read it too! First time ko since high school magbasa ng libro by a Filipino author (shame, I know). I have high expectations! Sana pwede tayong magbook share, ipapa-LBC ko tong libro na to sayo after ko basahin HAHAHA.

Sayang naman na hindi ka nakapunta, pero may next year pa naman 😀
