K-Mini Reviews: Moon Lovers + My Secret Romance

I am back with another K-Mini Review for you guys! Today’s picks are Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Secret Romance. One of these series is a series that you shouldn’t miss while the other you can totally skip! Dare to make a guess on which is which?

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

The story starts with a switch. A woman from the present travels back in time during a lunar eclipse. In the past, she is forced to relive and help shape Korea’s history.

The characters in this series are multi-dimensional you’ll feel like there’s so much to learn and discover about them. It’s one of the things I truly appreciate when watching series. The characters aren’t predictable and you can’t help but watch the next episode! The plot is mainly focused on a love story but since the time frame is in the past, you also get a quick history lesson about Korea. This is a plus for me because watching love stories can sometimes be repetitive but this series perfectly mixed love with history, family, and culture which makes it a cinematic explosion as you watch.

Each scene made you want more. It was a well-written series and the depth of the story made it very daebak!ย I highly recommend you to watch this drama if you haven’t already!

ps. This song from their soundtrack is gut-wrenching, I feel like my heart is breaking into a million pieces every time I hear it.

My Secret Romance

The story starts and is centered on a one night stand. For all of you readers who are 18 and below, stop reading.

I watched this series solely because of Sung Hoon. I watched him previously on Oh My Venus and he just captured my heart. Unfortunately, this series did not do him any justice. Let’s just talk about the elephant in the room, this series is solely focused on a one night stand. There isn’t a lot of character development and the conflicts were too shallow.

Most of the episodes were filled withย them flirting – your typical push and pull of characters that will make your heart flutter. After a few episodes of this, you get tired and want a conflict. The conflicts, however, were too simple and it could’ve easily been solved in an episode but it was prolonged which made the latter part of the series quite dragging.

The last episodes were so awful, I fast forwarded most of it. Most scenes were flashbacks of the earlier episodes! This series is cute but you can definitely watch something better. ๐Ÿ™‚

To keep it short and simple: I'm thirty years old. Still plenty young, but not as young as I used to be.

    1. Yes IU came from the present and ended up in the past but that’s about it. It wasn’t elaborated further how that happened (hoping for a second season though)!!! You should give it a try, it’s definitely a favorite of mine now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Moon Lovers ftw! Hahaha! But after watching Goblin, it has been my ultimate fave. Scarlet will always have a special place in my heart though. I haven’t watched Secret Romance. Now I may not try that anymore. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I don’t like Goblin!!!! It’s too sad for me and (I said it in a review before) the lead girl’s character confuses me. I couldn’t connect with her, especially on the wanting to be the Goblin’s bride badly. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  2. You know a friend also said that’s the reason why she was “clingy”. I guess that’s also the reason why I didn’t connect with her. She just seemed so sad 100% of the time and failed to see beyond ghosts, goblins, etc. Hhahaha. Maybe it’s just me and my desire to always look at the positive in life and her character didn’t sit well with me.

Basta. I didn’t like it and it was mostly Eun Tak’s fault! I loved Lee Dong Wok and Yoo In Na’s characters though โค
