Let’s have coffee

I know we usually have our coffee dates every Sunday but I was busy yesterday I didn’t have time to meet you. I hope you don’t mind that I’m a day late. 🙂

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that it was a busy Sunday yesterday. We started pretty early. We went to church, visited my dad, visited my grandmother, visited my grandfather, and went to SMX for a wedding expo. A busy day which meant I had to drive all around Manila yesterday. 😦

It was so tiring and man oh man, I just hate driving in Manila. You can’t relax even for a minute. Things just get worse when you have to drive at night. I almost hit a motorcycle (again) because the guy didn’t look when he was about to merge lanes. I sometimes honestly want to run over them because they are so careless.

If you guys don’t believe how crazy it is to drive in Manila, here is a proof. That guy with the stop sign job is to make everyone aware that a train is coming. The pedicab to the left was about to cross the street when the train was almost there!

If we were having coffee, I’d also remind you that it’s my first Father’s day without any of the men in my life. I lost both my father and grandfather last year. It feels weird without having either of them here. I just hope they’re somewhere peaceful. I also hope wherever they are they’re looking down on us and thinking they did a good job raising us.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about my first wedding expo experience ever. I don’t know about you guys but for me, I honestly think that weddings are too commercialized now. The moment I went in there I got overwhelmed by everything. The prices were also insane.

The expo was held at SMX Convention Center.

To tell you the truth, I don’t have a dream wedding. I’m not that kind of girl but my boyfriend does want to have an event. Not a big one, just a modest one where we can celebrate with friends and family. It’s probably the introvert in me but events don’t appeal to me. That’s why planning this wedding is frustrating me (plus the fact that I don’t have a dad and I’m getting married).

However, I am trying for my future husband. If I can’t even do this for him, I should honestly think about marriage as a whole, lol. So far, planning has been okay. We already fought twice and we’re almost out of a budget. I told you, prices are insane! I will do everything in my power to make sure that we don’t go over budget but still have a wedding we can look forward to. Let’s hope that’s possible. *insert crazy laugh here*

Oh, and enjoy this little time-lapse of me driving. 🙂

Have a great week ahead!

  1. I feel you about the wedding thing. I’m pretty extroverted myself, but even I would prefer an intimate affair with just our closest friends and family members.

Also, YES. I hate motorcycles so muuuuuch! -_-

    1. I really want a small one BUT everyone around me is saying otherwise. I hope you won’t have that dilemma when it’s your turn to walk down the aisle 😛

It’s like I have to consider others before myself huhu (ahem my mother is crazy, lol).

And yes, let’s run over all motorcycles 😛

      1. I’m so annoyed with that mentality! Like okay, consider suggestions from your mother and other relatives but at the end of the day, it’s you and your fiance getting married, not them! Ughhh hahaha. Ewan ko parang it seems more meaningful when the people around you are your loved ones talaga who you spent most of your life with, rather than some random relative that you don’t even know!

      2. It’s a bigger problem for me kasi my fiance wants something bigger than what I want (tapos dumagdag lang si mother dear). In the end, compromise is the key. It’s not working well so far but hopefully…hopefully, it’ll turn out okay 🙂

  2. Hello Kat!
You’re in luck because it is still Sunday here in Washington. Also I learned yesterday that I cannot drink coffee after 4 pm in the evening (I met my mom last night for pie and coffee around 9pm and I was so restless and still awake at 5 am this morning) so I have this nice, herbal “Sweet Dreams Tea.”
Happy Father’s Day Kat. I can’t imagine how it must have felt to have your first father’s day without your Father and Grandfather here, but you handled it so well and have a real peaceful sense about you. You give me hope because this may be my Dad’s last father’s day.
A wedding expo?! That sounds exciting mostly for the fact that you are getting married! I am kind of the same way where I would want to get married in an intimate and memorable way. It is nice that you are working it out with your future husband. Have you set a date?!?! I am super excited for you!!! What are the most important aspects of the wedding for you?
I really enjoyed your pics of driving through Manila. I hope to visit the Philippines someday :).
I hope you will have a wonderful week, Kat! I always love our chats!

    1. Hey Alana,

I have to be honest, your replies to my coffee dates are the best. It really feels like your sitting next to me. Thank you!!! ❤

As for your dad, I'm so sorry to hear about that but please stay positive because miracles can happen. I remember he has been fighting for a long time so what's a couple of more months/years? I'm sure he can do it. It sucks to lose a parent and I don't want you to experience that at all. 😦

Yes, I'm getting married! The date is set for February next year. I do hope everything goes well. Hmmm, honestly the most important thing is him being there. It sounds super cheesy but it's true. 😛

I do hope you get to visit the Philippines someday. Are you Asian by any chance? I've been always dying to know that, you look like one! lol

All the best this week, Kat 🙂

      1. Hi Kat!

Yes, I enjoy our coffee dates too! It has been so nice to keep in touch and talk through all of our highs and lows. Also, I love your writing style, your food reviews, and your pics. You inspire me to be ambitious, keep moving forward, but also to not lose touch with reality :).

Thank you for your kind words regarding my dad. I will continue to have hope and not lose sight of the present moment.

Congratulations on getting married!!! I am super excited for you! He is blessed to have such an amazing spirited, strong, and ambitious woman! You don’t sound cheesy at all. Being there for each other is the most important thing.

Yes, I am asian! My mom is Filipino, but she grew up in Hawaii. Her Dad would bring her to the Philippines to visit his family when she was young and my Dad Is Filipino Chamorro. He grew up in Guam. 🙂

        Have a Fantastic Week!!!

      2. Thanks so much Alana! ❤ I mostly write for myself that's why words like these always make me super happy.

You have to come to the Philippines sometime then! Just don't go when it's super hot (like now) hahaha!

Have a great week! ❤ Kat

      3. That is wonderful, Kat! Yes, I have been writing for myself also to work through challenges and celebrate life’s little victories then look back on the progress that has happened.

I am so happy that I have made wonderful friends along the way, especially you!
What would be the best month to visit? It is sad that my bf has been there multiple times and isn’t even fillipino and I haven’t been there once.

Always a joy to talk with you Kat!

      4. OMG haha did he come here as a tourist? You should definitely visit then. If I were a foreigner, I’d definitely go sometime November-December-January when it’s not super hot. The beaches won’t be crowded too. Plus you’d get to see Christmas here. 🙂 I honestly wish you’d visit. I have a cousin who has only been here once and a part of me wishes she visits more often and tries to understand her parent’s culture. No hate or anything, I am just so proud of being a Filipino and I wish all half-Filipinos would see what they’re missing (whether it’s good or bad) 😛

      5. He was in the Navy so I guess it was kind of a different experience. Thanks for telling me about the best times to come when it is less busy.
I have always wanted to go and spend more time learning about the culture 🙂
Hopefully I will visit sooner than later!

  3. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. The table was absolutely beautiful. I love those colors. If I ever get married I’d take a small ceremony on the beach with my close friends and family.

Glad you made it home safely! Crazy drivers can make you want to run them over lol…I’ve been there.

    Have a great week!

    1. Don’t tell my boyfriend (still not used to calling him fiance) but that’s the kind of event I want, just a simple and intimate one. 😀

Have a great week too and send my regards to the whole family. 🙂

  4. I agree that wedding expos are very overpriced and overwhelming. I remember going to several with my wife when we were planning. The key to keeping on a budget is researching and calling. Being flexible about the date is also helpful but not always practical. Take it slow, it is much like buying a house make sure you first determine your necessities then it gets easier. Hope this is helpful.

  5. Please write more about wedding planning! I enjoy reading about it even though I don’t plan on having a big event (we’ve finalized our guest list and didn’t even reach 50 people lol)

I really hate driving in Manila!!

    1. Are you getting married too??? WOWWW. Congratulations!! I don’t think I’ve read your update about that? 😀

Good for you that you reached 50! I really want a small wedding but compromise. 😛 I’ll try to write abut it soon. Hahaha when I’m not stressing over it.
